If you are interested to visit Verona or for a farm holiday or weekend, remember that Verona has an antique historical center that is one of the most beautiful of Italy.
While you are visiting the city you must visit its symbol around the world, the Verona Arena. The antique amphitheatre was built during the time of Emperor August and it is now famous around the world for the opera performances that take place. It is found on the historical center of Verona, icon of the city as well as the figure of Romeo and Juliette. The inside of the Arena can be visited when there are no shows or concerts of some famous artist: among the most famous events we remark the Festivalbar, which is transmitted on TV during its final evening as well as the opera season opening. During winter, the Arena becomes the site of the Exhibition of nativity scenes that come from all around the world.
Going ahead with our tour to the city of Verona we find its two main squares: Piazza delle Erbe, the ancient heart of the city that is found where once the roman forum was located. It hosts a daily fruit and vegetable market during the day; during the night, especially on Wednesdays, it is crowded by people performing the aperitif ritual.
Aside Piazza delle Erbe you'll find Piazza dei Signori, enclosed like a patio and surrounded by buildings that are connected to each other by arches; it is also known as Piazza Dante and it is located in the historic center of Verona.
The last square, current city center and meeting point of people from Verona, is Piazza Brà. Its name means "large" and it is indeed the largest square in the city of Verona.
Visiting Verona you'll find the Cathedral, devoted to Santa Maria Matricolare. The Cathedral of Verona was made up from the ashes of two Early Christian churches that were destroyed by an earthquake. It has been completely rebuilt on Romanic style. The cathedral is found on the medieval zone of Verona, within the Adige river bend.
Walking through Via Cappello, you'll find an entrance completely covered with love messages, signatures and phrases of people in love passing by: this entrance leads you to the patio where you'll find the famous balcony of Juliette.
We are talking about the famous house of Juliette.
That is a mandatory stage when visiting Verona. The beautiful balcony of the 14th century house (recently restored) is visited by thousands of tourists every year. The statue of Juliette will be there for the ritual lucky charm picture as a souvenir from Verona. |
