San Mattia has always produced extra-virgin olive oil with two lines of oil:
- Extra virgin olive oil of San Mattia
- Extra virgin olive oil "Nobile della Rocchetta" from oliviculture on sloped lands.
Our oldest olive trees are at least 2 centuries old and we have taken care of them every year from the moment that our family started working this land; we also plant new trees where possible.
Thanks to the ground variety, to its exposition and to typical cultivars of this zone we are able to process our olives on separate product lines with different organoleptic and sensorial characteristics.
This year, particularly hard for some country areas due to drought and due to the fact that the olive trees produce every second year, we have produced the extra virgin Olive Oil San Mattia.
It has been remarkably favourable on the area that we call "of the Rocchetta". These trees are located on a hilly area with marked slopes; for this reason and for the type of cultivar that has a limited production we are not able to collect the high quality olives that are produced. The year 2008 has surprised everybody, and we have used those olives to create the "Nobile della Rocchetta" of the San Mattia farm.
This oil, that has really surprised us, has participated to the extra virgin olive oil contest of San Pietro Incariano in the heart of the classic Valpolicella and it was positioned among the first places thanks to its outstanding characteristics.
