Agriturismo San Mattia  Farm

Discover the unforgettable landscapes and the luxury services

Today, the farm San Mattia, two generations after our arrival, is smaller and more modern: we currently cultivate nine hectares, three of them are vineyards four are dedicated to olive groves, one hectare of woods for firewood and the rest is dedicated to kitchen garden and fruit plants that grant genuine and healthy products to our farmhouse..

Farm history

Our family resides in San Mattia since World War II, when the countryside was used as a refuge from German and Ally's bombs that were thrown over the beautiful Verona.

On that time, The Farm Ederle enclosed a wide area that covered from the hill slopes to the ridges where we are currently located. The land variety, the different types of underground, the natural water springs and the necessary help of remarkable workers guaranteed a variegated production that provided food for the farmers' families and was also sold at Piazza Erbe as well.

The Valpolicella vineyards extended over the top of the hills; its grapes were processed to wine on the wine cellars obtained from the yellow stone or they were let dry at the farmhouse's garret until January to obtain a straw wine that, according to the oldest people, was something really exceptional.

The fruit trees and olive groves were located along the steep coasts of the hill; the oldest trees were found on this land long before the arrival of our family; also cauliflowers and rosemary were cultivated as well as mulberries for silkworms.

Wheat and corn were cultivated on the hill foot area, along the stream of the Sommavalle fountain, while specialized gardens and fenced areas for pets and other domestic animals were located on different areas of the entire farm.

Different activities were started on different periods, like floriculture on greenhouses, truffle cultivation and alfalfa cultivation for the horse club horses.
